Most cruise lines have a niche (pronounced neesh). That is, they have something of a particular nature that satisfies the wants and needs of passengers Some passengers seem to gravitate to a particular cruise line and even a particular ship within that cruise line. There could be several reasons for this. Just as one shoe does not fit all, so it is with ships; one ship does not fit for all passengers. Some cruise lines attract a more mature or senior age passenger. Some, a younger group and still others a more family oriented vessel with more onboard entertainment activities. Still some, an adventurous Expedition cruise to an exotic less explored destination. There are some companies that specialize in this small group type of cruise.
Another reason why not all ships are a fit is the physical size of a vessel. Ships can range in lengths of 660 feet to over 1,000 feet and Gross Tonnage from 42,000 to excess of 220,000. So, why would this be of importance to a passenger? Going back to our guests that are mature and of senior age. They may choose a smaller ship with less walking involved, fewer onboard activities and a quieter more intimate environment. A smaller vessel will allow for shorter embarkation and disembarkation times. Fewer passengers to allow them the greater opportunity to join with others during the cruise. For some travelers, bigger is not always better.
The very large cruise ships pretty much have something for everyone from varying eateries onboard to activities for adults and children alike. Some cruise lines and cruise ships excel with their cuisine offerings. There are dining options that are included with your cruise fare. In addition, for a cost, there are specialty dining options that are, in my opinion, are certainly worth considering as I have not had a less than excellent experience in both the service and the presentation and quality of the food Your niche could also be a specialty cruise. It is popular with some cruise lines to offer 'theme' cruises. Some examples would include a genre of musicians to artists gathered onboard to delight, amuse and entertain. You can enquire of your favorite cruise line for such a cruise being offered.
